@David Strunk: I agree. I even thought about not putting the poll up because of the insufficiency of the words, but I wanted to see what others thought, and I wasn't sure what words to use. I was actually surprised by the winner of the poll.

I'm commenting here since there's nowhere to comment on this on your poll.

Humans are made in the image of good=inherently good

Humans possess original sin=tainted bad

The term "basically" obscures the poll from a theological perspective. My argument: to become more human is to become more good. If Jesus was fully human, then humanity is basically good. So, my answer is good, but that doesnt' leave room for the tremendous qualification of original sin. You need a different term than "basically."

"originally" good
"possess" evil

I don't know what other words you could use.

Well, certainly we should be careful about completely re-visiting the McCarthy era, but it's not as if there weren't real concerns. Perhaps the method and veracity with which people were convicted should have been a touch more tempered, but the issue of a Communist plot in America was very real. And while not the main issue of our day, it is still the admitted purpose of the Community Party in America to make use of a backdoor to introduce itself into the political process. But just like Sayet said, it's always the enemy you DON'T have your eye on that sneaks up behind you to take you over.

very interesting. i'm currently reading the book "Witness" by Whittaker Chambers, which is about his coming to and break from the Communist Party. And, not to beat the drum of modern-day-mccarthy-ism, so much of what Chambers writes about (communist values, revolutionary goals) directly applies to what Sayet is talking about. Fascinating read.

Well said, Kevin. I very much agree; the disrespect liberals/Democrats gave George W. Bush from day 1 was greatly unwarranted, and it weakened the position of the presidency. Like him-- or her-- not, a president is a president, and if we as citizens don't show our respect, it only weakens us as a country. I don't like that Barack Obama won, but I'm not going to spend the next four years slandering him and picketing his actions-- or lack thereof. I'll give him a chance, and I'll hold out hope that the conservatives can come up with an awesome opponent for him come election day in November '12.

And the good news is that since I make less than $30,000 a year, I'm pretty sure that my tax bracket is low enough that I won't be taxed too much :)

The biggest thing to remember about Fox News, above all partisanship, is that they are attention whores. They just wanted to be first to call it. They CANNOT reliable call it right now.
