If the Democrats in Congress actually lived up to the manifesto they published back in ‘06, I’d probably be a proud Democrat. The promises put forth in the document are exactly those which a governing body that represents the interests of the people should uphold.
Democrats believe that America needs - and Americans deserve - a New Direction that provides security, prosperity, and opportunity for all.
Absolutely. I agree 100%. I love to hear my representatives declare that they work for us, the American people. Not for the special interests. Not only for the people of San Francisco who want to project their eco-religion on the rest of us, but for America as a whole.
Too many Americans are paying a heavy price for those wrong choices: record costs for energy…
(I should note, of course, that this was written back when the Democrats were about to take control of Congress in ‘06. Since then, gas prices rose from $2.19 to $4.11, an increase of an incredible 87.7%! Congressional Approval is at an all-time low, the national debt has increased over 14%, and the Dems themselves will tell you that we’re in the middle of a recession. They’re wrong, but they’ll still admit to it. Which is astounding.)
With integrity, civility and fiscal discipline, our New Direction for America will use commonsense principles to address the aspirations and fulfill the hopes and dreams of all Americans. That is our promise to the American people.
Apparently they will not use commonsense principles, which would include dropping the Federal moratorium on oil exploration. Nor will they be civil about it.
Check out page 24 of the manifesto:
Bills should generally come to the floor under a procedure that allows open, full, and fair debate consisting of a full amendment process that grants the Minority the right to offer its alternatives, including a substitute.
And yet, despite the GOP’s demands for the energy bill to come to a vote, Pelosi won’t allow it. What makes it all the more astounding is that she won’t allow a vote to be taken on a bill that the Dems would almost undoubtably crush! Why? Because of the misguided notion that carbon is a poison. If global warming is man-made and carbon dioxide is the primary cause, then we must get rid of it! And burning fossil fuels releases loads of carbon dioxide! So we must stop!
This is “fact”, decided upon by the dirt people of San Francisco and their expatriates, and forced down the throat of the American people by Pelosi and her wildly out-of-touch Congress.
This whole eco-religion is centered around the preposterous idea that us humans are fully capable of throwing the Earth’s equilibrium off kilter, putting Earth’s ecological and climatological state outside the bounds of its own recovery. It’s the peak of arrogance, to say the least. It violates Occam’s razor by making the assumption that the Earth could not possibly have a naturally fluctuating climate of as much as 1 or 2 degrees in either direction, and it flies in the face of actual science, from the likes of scientists who haven’t been coerced or threatened and whose work hasn’t been manipulated:
CO2 is a proxy for global temperature, and attempting to control global temperatures by regulating anthropogenic CO2 is unfounded, futile, and wasteful.
Whoops. In much the same way that proving a Jesus that was never raised from the dead would rock Christianity to its core, the absence of “carbon as a pollutant” really puts the whole man-made global warming ideology into serious question. Calm, clear-headed scientists are beginning to come forward with long-standing evidence that disproves man-made global warming. So close your eyes and ears, and chant to yourself as loud as you want Gorites. It doesn’t make truth go away.
If real Democrats are represented by Pelosi and her Congress’s track record, then Democrats are not reasonable. They are not commonsensical. They are not logical. They are neither fair, open-minded, nor realistic. And I am not a Democrat.

It looks like the American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists and by no means a Big Oil-financed, right-wing group, appears to be reversing it’s previously “incontrovertible” stance on Man Made Global Warming.
Turns out, as common sense would also lead you to believe, the Earth’s recent warming trend might simply be the natural result of the Sun’s extra activity over the last 70 years. If you don’t believe me, try answering this question: Exactly how is human activity and its production of CO2 on Earth causing the ice caps on Mars to melt?
Of course, if you’ll read the article that I just linked to, you’ll see that this scientist’s conclusions aren’t well received.
“His views are completely at odds with the mainstream scientific opinion,” said Colin Wilson, a planetary physicist at England’s Oxford University.
Hmm. And of course, mainstream scientific opinion is always correct. The Earth is flat, you know. (More on Mars here.)

Something just occurred to me while reading a friend’s facebook page. There is a kind of person that actually exists who is both an agnostic atheist and a global warming alarmist. Hilarious. This person can’t bring himself to believe in God because there isn’t definitive proof, but yesterday seemed really warm, didn’t it?

Apparently, even after his green-ovation, the former Vice President and author of a global warming gloom-and-doom masterpiece uses 6,728kWh more energy every month than the average American household uses in an entire year. (Me? I used 713kWh last month.) More figures here, and a comment from that post:
He’s built his recent career on making Americans feel guilty about their lifestyles, and he’s using 20x more than those he wants to make feel guilty.
And he’s still flying around in that Gulfstream…
We’re comparing kWh here, not his monthly bill (which, by the by, is now a staggering $16,533), so his spokeswoman’s excuse that he’s involved in Nashville’s Green Power Switch Program–which costs more per kWh but lets the customer use some renewable sources–doesn’t really hold muster.
It really makes you question their motives. Why are they pushing this so hard if they don’t walk the walk? Or is that just for us normal people to do? Is this what’s behind the whole Cap and Trade mess? Would America really be for it if they knew that they would suddenly be forced to participating a new rigged market–the “quarter of a trillion dollar” [@ 3:55] emissions economy as well? Hmm… more governmental control. Awesome. (More on Cap and Trade here.) Of course, any intelligent business man will take advantage of such a system. If you’re not at the negotiating table, you’re on the menu, says Richard Sandor, the CEO of the Chicago Climate Exchange.
The real problem is giving them a system to game, and the fault for that lies squarely at the feet of politicians who buy into the junk-science arguments of “global warming” alarmists without any consideration of the massive economic costs Americans will bear in a Quixotic quest to stop climate change. It reminds me of a club I once heard of: “The Stop Continental Drift Society”, and it makes as much sense.
Honestly, this is why I couldn’t give a real rip about what Gore or any other celebrity has to say about the issue. Dave Letterman and his racing team are included too. If you folks were really concerned that our behavior was causing the ultimate meltdown of Earth, your behavior would reflect it. If you truly believe your jumping on a table will break the table, you don’t tell everyone else to get off the table whilst you enjoy your continuing table dance–amusing though it might be.

KUSI, in San Diego, has a piece by John Coleman refuting Global Warming. Interesting read, and a good treatise on the subject:
With a preacher’s zeal, Mr. Gore sets out to strike terror into us and our children and make us feel we are all complicit in the potential demise of the planet.

Dear Liberals,
You’ve gotta make up your mind. Are you for the “little guy,” the blue collar worker? Or is supporting the Green lobbyists more your cup of tea? You see, if you stop and take a half-minute to think about it, you’ll come to the conclusion that stringent self-imposed caps on energy usage and emissions like the ones you wrote up in your sweeping 500-page global warming bill will be a direct cause for soaring energy costs in the future. You’ve had eight fantastic years of a scapegoat. But enjoy trying to blame gas at $20 dollars a gallon on a Bush Administration that was ten years ago.
Oh, and by the way. Carbon dioxide isn’t a greenhouse gas. I breathe it out every day. You know what counteracts that effect? Trees. So… plant more trees. What? That doesn’t provide you the opportunity to leverage more control over my life? Oh, well then I suppose the obvious and simple solution of having more plants and trees around doesn’t really work then, does it?
It seems like you really want to have it both ways; that seems to be your calling card. You know, complain about gas prices and demand OPEC to increase their output but refuse to open up any of our own sources of oil. (Don’t worry about the fact that China is actually drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.) Complain about people’s money troubles, but raise taxes. Shout from the rooftops about how anyone should be able to achieve the American dream, but once they get there, tax them to the hilt and complain about their wealth as if they’ve done something wrong.
Anyway, I just thought you’d like to know why I can’t really appreciate any of your solutions. Cheers.
